Learning to Start Coding in Python
One of my bucket lists has been to be able to develop my own applications. To that end, I decided to start learning programming in Python a while back. I have been studying how to program in Python in and out for a few years, but in the last few months I have made a few significant strides including building a Machine Learning app that identifies faces from pictures and videos. I learned basic C++ back in college, and only know HTML/CSS and some PHP.
My Earlier Experience
My philosophy historically has been to learn as you go, and focus on the business out come first. This meant, I would leverage existing scripts or apps and validate my ideas when building websites. Outcome first, coding later, has worked out pretty well a decade ago – leading me to a very good supplemental income on the side and it benefitted me a lot financially. I think I have since lost touch of doing side-gigs and want to get back. Having development skills is a great skill to have in your tool kit and that drove me to pick up Python again. I took a Udemy class of 20+ hours and successfully completed it and got myself a certificate.
In addition to Python, I already was decent in HTML/CSS a long time back and built too many websites using Movable Type. Instead of Movable Type, I am learning to use FLASK and may switch to Django.
Future Goals by Learning to Program in Python
In addition to being able to build my own application son the side, I am also able to pick up some freelance work as a developer. I think there is intense competition to pick up these jobs and there seems to be a competition to quote the lowest price possible on Upwork. Nonetheless, having actual development skills with a portfolio would certainly advance my own professional career as a Product Manager.
Am looking forward to see how I leverage it to build more complex applications and hopefully restart my side gigs.
